Mt longonot rises from the floor of the Great Rift Valley like a monolith forming an extinct volcanic mountain. A unique feature is the thick forest that lies within the crater of the mountain. The crater rim also provides great scenic views across the beautiful Rift Valley. Major wildlife attractions at Mount Longonot include buffaloes, elands, lion, leopard, bushbucks, common zebra, giraffe and Grant’s gazelles.
Mt Longonot is just less than 2780m (9100ft) above sea level with a tree-filled interior and a lonesome steam vent to the northeast.
Main trip
The trip begins in Nairobi at 7.30 am and the journey takes approximately 1 and a half hours. Our driver will pick you from your Nairobi hotel and introduce himself.
A stop at the Great Rift Valley view point is guaranteed for that panoramic view and photo shoot.
Guides are waiting for you at Mt longonot gate for 4 hours of hike and descend. Go round the rim of the crater as you enjoy great views of the thick forest below. The guides are armed and will help you to spot the friendly buffalos. You have 2 or 3 stops to cool yourself.
Our driver is waiting for you at the base to proceed to Lake Naivasha for boat ride. An awesome one hour boat ride takes you to the very Centre of lake Naivasha as the biggest herds of hippopotamus glares at you. Spot hundreds of birds hovering above the lake. In the adjacent island, spot the giraffes, gazelles and zebras grazing innocently. The pilot is experienced in tour guiding and will give you all the information about Lake Naivasha.
